Fight Night!

Well, for those of you who have been living in a vacuum the last few days, there was a brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills last Friday night between fans and a few Indiana Pacers. After reading Stu's Blog, I thought I would post a comment, but then I got to thinking that it should be a post since it would be more than a few lines.
Anyway, if you haven't seen Stu's post, then you should. My thoughts are specifically about Ron Artest at the moment. While I was driving to my flight lesson, I was listening to WDFN and they had a caller that said Artest was just a punk. I want to add that he is really a bully too. You see, Artest and other sports personalities, John Saunders in particular said that Ron Artest was just defending himself and that when someone physically threatens you, you have to react. Well, from what I saw, Ben Wallace physically threatened Artest by pushing him and he wanted no part of Wallace. So, what is different about the fan who threw the cup? Artest felt more confident about pummeling a fan than Ben Wallace. It isn't about defending himself, it is about beating up on smaller people. In the end, he didn't even fight the right guy. I agree that you have to react, but react the right way. Point out the fan and have him thrown out, that was the right way to react. That’s just my take on a little piece of the whole pie. MacLachlan...Out!

I have taken alot of heat down here in Raleigh from people wanting to trash Detroit fans. I say they should take a look at some of the other skirmishes that have happened at sporting events and see that it has effected alot of cities long before us. Take a look at Philly!!!

My favorite though, was an article on ESPN's website regarding the accounts of Artest's father and how there have been anger management issues for years!! He said his son at age eight was sent for anger management after being caught with his hands around the throat of another student!! The best part is that they encouraged him to get involved in sports. Yep, you guessed it!! His father encouraged him in basketball!!

Ha !! Thanks for the plug !

Yup, I would agree with the bullying aspect. But it seems right now that the Oakland Co. Prosecutor is going to file misdemeanor Assault and battery charges to those that they can determine were involved. Only thing is they are really looking for that guy who threw the chair... they find him, he could get felony Assault charges. WDIV has a good shot of him from a camera in the Palace that someone smuggled in. Check it out !!

Also, take into consideration that Artest obviously wasn't looking to find the actual guy who threw anything at him, he attacked some poor guy who was just standing there! Not only was the reaction inappropriate, but he attacked some innocent guy! As for the one in the ball cap who actually DID throw the cup- if you look at some of the news reported on him, well he's been banned from games for a while and has a record a mile long with Johnny Law. Nice.
